Three departments, one dashboard: a reporting overhaul

Three versions of the truth

Sales looked at one report. Operations used another. Finance trusted a third. The numbers never matched, and every Monday morning started with the same meeting: whose spreadsheet is right this week?

The approach

Instead of building a new platform, we mapped the three existing data sources to a single reporting layer. One pipeline, one set of definitions, one dashboard — while leaving every department's original tools untouched so nobody had to re-learn anything.

The rule: the dashboard had to be boring enough that nobody argued with it.

What changed

  • One source of truth — all three departments now read the same numbers
  • Monday meetings cut from 90 minutes to 15 — there's nothing left to argue about
  • Definitions documented — what counts as a "sale" is now written down, not assumed

The whole project shipped in three weeks. The hardest part wasn't the code — it was agreeing on what "revenue" means.

Reading is good. Shipping is better.
